MED-EL has launched rechargeable battery options for the Sonnet Audio Processor. These will be available as part of the standard switch-on or upgrade kit for those patients newly implanted or upgraded.
MED-EL is also generously providing all existing Sonnet users with a set of 3 standard size rechargeable batteries, an adapter, and a recharging unit free of charge. The re-sale value of this system is $1200.
The rechargeable system comes in 2 sizes; micro and standard.
The SCIP has made the decision to issue only the standard size to its recipients, as the micro rechargeable battery offers only 7 hours of battery power. The standard rechargeable battery provides up to 10 hours of listening, and is fully compatible with WaterWear. SCIP will retain stocks of standard size rechargeable batteries, only.
Patients who wish to use the micro batteries will need to order and purchase these at their own cost, together with the smaller size battery cover. The rechargeable batteries can be quickly charged and easily changed. The SONNET Charging System can charge up to four batteries at once and is powered through a USB connection. Please read the manual carefully before charging and using your batteries.
The recharging kits are available now for collection at SCIP clinics by those who live within the wider Christchurch and Wellington city areas, or for those who have appointments during the month of October. SCIP will courier sets to Sonnet recipients outside the areas above; we will contact patients to provide forewarning of any courier delivery and to ensure the courier delivery address is correct.
