Did you know that there are devices available that may help you hear better in different situations?

Even though our cochlear implants make listening and hearing easier daily sometimes we need a wee boost to help us stay involved in our surroundings. That might be something that helps us hear better at work, at concerts or church or even at home when watching the TV.

There are a few different options to choose from and depending on your budget, what you need and what you need it for you may be able to access some funding to help you pay for your assistive listening device.

Some examples are:

Cochlear branded wireless accessories like the Mini Mic + – this is a remote microphone that you can give to the person you are with to wear to help bring their voice closer to you when it’s noisy like when you are in the car or at a restaurant. It can also be plugged into any device with an audio jack to stream music or any audio straight to your CI.

The phone clip and TV streamer do the same job but stream phone calls or TV programmes straight to your Cochlear processor helping to minimise interference and provide a more direct signal.

Roger Devices by Phonak. Currently available are the Roger Pen, Select and Roger One. These are all remote microphones that can sometimes stream audio to both your CI (no matter what brand) and your hearing aid and boast the industry’s best performance in background noise.

These devices can often multi task so they may help with phone calls but also with work or personal Zoom meetings and with watching cute cat videos on YouTube – all at once.

If you have a query about whether one of these devices may be suitable for you then please contact SCIP to arrange an appointment.
